What are Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers?

Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers are two different injectable products that offer temporary cosmetic results. During your initial consultation at Santa Fe Skin Institute, the team tells you about the products and helps you decide which one can accomplish your goals.

Neurotoxins and fillers are different products with distinct anti-aging uses. Here’s how they work:

Botox

Botox is a neuromodulator that stops communication between motor nerves and their corresponding muscles. That causes targeted facial muscles to stop flexing while the product is active, which smooths out targeted facial creases. The results last for 3-4 months at a time.

Daxxify

DAXXIFY® is FDA-approved to smooth moderate to severe lines between the brows. It is the only long-lasting frown line treatment powered by a peptide with results that last on average 6 months and up to 9 months for some.

DAXXIFY® is unique because it is the only formulation that uses a novel peptide as a stabilizer and does not contain human or animal byproducts.

Dysport

Dysport temporarily treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. The majority of users see improvement in just 2-3 days after treatment. Dysport may help improve the look of your frown lines between the eybrows for up to 5 months.2

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers work by increasing dermal volume and have gel-like textures. They sit beneath your skin to add artificial plumpness before dissolving over time. The results can last for six months to one year or longer, depending on the type of product you use.

What goals can Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers help me reach?

You can use Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers together or separately to achieve a more youthful look by minimizing wrinkles or restoring lost volume in the face. A few of the many goals you can accomplish using one or both products in your treatment plan at Santa Fe Skin Institute are:

  • Fewer fine lines (e.g., crow’s feet, forehead lines)

  • Fewer large wrinkles (e.g., nasolabial folds)

  • Fewer chin dimples

  • Plumper lips

  • Plumper cheeks

  • Less noticeable recessed scars

  • Decreased lower lid shadow

  • Improved facial symmetry

While both products can treat wrinkles, they treat different types. Neurotoxins focuses on dynamic wrinkles, which appear and get deeper when you make expressions using your facial muscles. Dermal Fillers treat static wrinkles that appear due to sagging and loss of structural collagen.

How should I prepare for my Neurtoxin or Dermal Fillers appointment?

In preparation for treatment with cosmetic injectables at Santa Fe Skin Institute, you must come in for a consultation with the team. At this appointment, you discuss your goals and expectations for treatment, as well as your current health and any medications you take.

The team makes sure you’re healthy enough to undergo the procedure and that you have realistic expectations for the results.

Ahead of your appointment, the team may give you a few instructions to minimize bruising, discomfort, and the potential for complications. They may advise you to stop smoking, pause the use of any blood-thinning medications or supplements, or clean off any makeup before you arrive.
