Biostimulator Injections

A biostimulator is an injectable substance that stimulates the body’s natural collagen production, helping to restore volume, improve skin texture, and enhance facial contours over time. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which add volume directly by placing a gel-like substance under the skin, biostimulators work gradually by encouraging your skin to rebuild its own structural support.

Bellafill

Bellafill is a long-lasting, FDA-approved dermal filler that works as both a volume enhancer and a collagen biostimulator. It's especially known for its effectiveness in treating deep facial lines and acne scars, with results that can last up to 5 years or more in some cases.

What is Bellafill made of?

Bellafill is composed of two key components:

  1. Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres (20%)

    • Tiny, biocompatible synthetic beads

    • Act as a scaffold to support natural collagen production

    • Do not break down over time

  2. Bovine collagen gel (80%)

    • Provides immediate volume and lift upon injection

    • Gradually absorbed as your body replaces it with its own collage

How does it work?

  • The collagen gel provides instant volume, smoothing lines or depressed scars.

  • Over time, the body absorbs the bovine collagen, but the PMMA microspheres remain, stimulating your body to produce natural collagen around them.

  • This leads to long-lasting structural support and firmness in the skin.

How long does it last?

  • Nasolabial folds: Up to 5 years

  • Acne scars: Results seen for 1 year+ and often longer

Treatment areas

  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)

  • Marionette lines

  • Cheeks

  • Temples

  • Acne scars

  • Off-label: jawline contouring, chin enhancement

Important Considerations

  • Skin testing is required before treatment because the bovine collagen may cause allergic reactions in a small number of people.

  • It’s not reversible, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers (e.g., Juvederm), so precise placement by an experienced injector is critical.

  • Not recommended for lips or superficial fine lines.

  • Because the PMMA microspheres are permanent, Bellafill is best suited for experienced filler patients who know what results they want.

Potential side effects

  • Bruising, swelling, redness at the injection site

  • Lumps or nodules (rare, but possible)

  • Allergic reaction to collagen (why a skin test is done before treatment)

Sculptra

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an innovative dermal filler designed to restore facial volume and promote collagen production over time. Unlike traditional fillers that provide immediate results, Sculptra works gradually to enhance your appearance, making it a popular choice for those seeking a more natural-looking outcome.

How Sculptra Works

  • Poly-L-lactic Acid: The key ingredient in Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible substance that stimulates the body’s own collagen production.

  • Gradual Results: Over a series of sessions, Sculptra helps to restore lost volume in areas such as the cheeks, temples, and jawline, resulting in a fuller, more youthful appearance.

Benefits of Sculptra

  • Long-lasting Effects: Results can last up to two years or more, making it a cost-effective option for maintaining youthful skin.

  • Natural Appearance: The gradual nature of Sculptra allows for subtle enhancements that appear natural.

  • Minimal Downtime: Most patients can return to their daily activities immediately after treatment.

Ideal Candidates

Sculptra is suitable for individuals looking to:

  • Restore facial volume lost due to aging or weight loss

  • Improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Achieve a more youthful contour without invasive surgery

What to Expect During Treatment

  1. Consultation: A thorough assessment to discuss your goals and determine if Sculptra is right for you.

  2. Preparation: The treatment area may be numbed for comfort.

  3. Injection Sessions: Sculptra is typically administered in a series of sessions, spaced several weeks apart.

  4. Post-Treatment Care: Mild swelling or redness may occur, but these effects usually resolve quickly.

Aftercare and Recovery

  • Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure: Protect your skin with sunscreen.

  • Gentle Massage: Your provider may recommend gentle massage of the treated areas to ensure even distribution.

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to help support collagen production.
